Following voting by a panel of judges, eyeWitness has been shortlisted for the 2022 tech for good award.
Sponsored by PwC, in association with Silicon Valley Bank, the UK tech awards showcases the best of the UK’s fast-moving tech sector. It is expected to be attended by more than 800 people, including tech entrepreneurs, chief executive officers and financial directors, corporate advisors, investors, and tech consultants and commentators.
The tech for good award specifically recognises technology that is harnessed to deliver beneficial social, cultural and/or environmental outcomes. The other organisations and companies shortlisted are Exscientia AI Limited, First Light Fusion Limited, Greyparrot AI Ltd, Moneyhub Financial Technology Ltd, and R;pple Suicide Prevention Charity.
“This latest success is a testament to the power of eyeWitness technology,” said Wendy Betts, Director of eyeWitness. “Seeking justice for international atrocity crimes is a long and difficult process, particularly for those in remote locations with limited resources. eyeWitness proves that we can use technology to break down these barriers and make a demonstrable impact.”
Launched by the International Bar Association in 2015, the eyeWitness to Atrocities camera app is used by hundreds of journalists, activists, and documenters around the world to capture verifiable footage of international atrocity crimes. As well as having vital security features for those documenting in high-risk locations, the app works offline and supports anonymous documentation. All footage is stored and protected by LexisNexis Legal & Professional.
Moreover, eyeWitness works closely with app users to help bring perpetrators to justice by delivering footage to accountability mechanisms such as the International Criminal Court and the United Nations. Most recently, eyeWitness filed a joint submission to the United Nations Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine regarding attacks on Ukrainian hospitals and healthcare.
This year’s winners of the UK tech awards will be revealed at the awards event on 2nd November at the Westminster Park Plaza, London.
