2025 eyeWitness Outcome Report

12 June 2026

Throughout 2025, eyeWitness continued to support efforts to document international crimes and serious human rights violations and strengthen pathways to accountability through the use of verified digital evidence. Working alongside partners and documenters around the world, eyeWitness helped ensure that authenticated evidence reached investigators and accountability mechanisms.

In Ukraine, two reports produced by eyeWitness and partners regarding attacks on the country’s healthcare system were authorised for use by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in the context of criminal investigations concerning alleged war crimes. Separately, the SBU confirmed that three items of footage captured via the eyeWitness app in connection with another matter were incorporated into the case file of an ongoing criminal investigation. Together, these developments demonstrate how authenticated digital evidence and the analysis of civil society organisations can support accountability efforts.

In Nigeria, partners using the eyeWitness app continued to document serious human rights violations in the Middle Belt region. Building on this documentation, eyeWitness and the International Committee on Nigeria (ICON) submitted a Joint Urgent Appeal to several United Nations Special Procedures regarding violence between herder and farmer communities in the region. Building on two previous submissions, the appeal highlighted ongoing violations of the right to life and the right to an adequate standard of living, including the rights to housing and food, and called attention to the urgent need for international engagement.

These initiatives reflect eyeWitness' ongoing commitment to ensuring that credible digital evidence reaches those positioned to investigate and respond to atrocity crimes and human rights violations. By working closely with civil society organisations, eyeWitness helps ensure that authenticated digital evidence informs investigations and supports accountability efforts around the world.

None of this work would be possible without the dedication of our partners, documenters, and supporters around the globe. We are particularly grateful to the International Bar Association, LexisNexis Legal & Professional, and the law firms providing pro bono support for their continued collaboration and contribution to our work.
