With the support of eyeWitness, an organisation in the Middle East captured 1,602 photos and videos regarding ongoing human rights abuses and violations of international humanitarian law by state and non-state actors. The eyeWitness legal team reviewed all the media files submitted via the bespoke encrypted and secure system and identified potential avenues for redress, which included a UN body mandated with investigating these violations.
eyeWitness briefed the UN investigation team about the content of the footage and provided all technical documentation required by their analysts for a source evaluation. Together with the UN team, eyeWitness identified the information relevant to the investigation and shared 235 photos and videos that helped to determine the locations of major incidents.
